Keep It Real! Diverse-Version
The Keep It Real Game, Diverse®-Version, is a remarkable CommHUMANcation tool that quickly, gently, and profoundly removes barriers between people, strengthens relationships, and builds community.
It is a wonderful engagement tool, in which even the most resistant people open up to one another within moments. Playing this game helps people to experience one another in deep and meaningful ways. It lowers defenses and opens hearts and minds, facilitating understanding, new learning, and empathy.
A student from City College said:
"From start to finish, I felt like it was a really moving experience, especially because when we started off we were really uncomfortable with each other. We were not sure it was a safe place. But we grew to be comfortable with each other. And it goes to show that when you start opening up, and when you're able to talk about things...it makes the entire environment more comfortable."
The recently launched Keep It Real game promises to maximize diversity efforts on College campuses. The Assistant Director of Residence Life at City College Towers recently stated,
"Keep It Real was the core of our (divisional) diversity workshop for students and proved to be more engaging and impactful than any keynote speaker we've had in the past. While other diversity activities have caused students to feel guilty or further marginalized because of their identity, Keep It Real empowered our students to speak their truth while remaining open to the experience and the dialogue. Students repeatedly mentioned that the game provided them an opportunity to have honest conversations with their peers in a safe environment surrounding important issues.
A powerful element to this workshop is that once the workshop is experienced, students and faculty can facilitate their own workshops with the Keep It Real games, and recreate the experience in their own ways. This game can also be utilized for team building, leadership development, retreats, staff development, community work, and much more. And…It is outrageously fun! "
Another student from City College said,
"The Keep It Real game is an icebreaker, and is something where you learn more about someone past what you see, past whether they are a Muslim woman, or a white man, or whether they're Jewish or whatever. Personally, I think this would be good for incoming freshmen, for people that are just coming in...and think this is something that would be a great addition to this school."
